I have one question: How come you write it in kanji, and then you write it in hiragana. Does that mean you can use both to write it in everyday language? Or is it just to show us…

a lot of reasons, really. mainly because it is much simpler for the Japanese, obviously not for non native Japanese speakers. Many many Japanese words are identical in their romaji / hiragana spelling and would have to be judged out of context. That really isn’t an issue with unique kanji for those similar sounding words. Another big reason I would assume is how much shorter the written language is with the use of kanji. Some hiragana spellings of kanji are really, reaaaally long.

I’m not a native Japanese speaker, but I think I know the point of kanji. In Japananese, there are a LOT of homophones. One example I can think of would be the word for chemistry, which is “kagaku”, and the word for science, which also happens to be “kagaku”. The way you differentiate between these two words when writing is through the use of different kanji. Also, kanji probably take up less space than hiragana or katakana.

i know
well when i ask someone he said that so many words mean KA and if u would write it int an sentence they wouldnt know what u exactly mean . i know what mean sooo much to rem, eber
about 1 year ago
@drewsky684 the point is because it would get extreamly confusing to tell word from word in just using hiragana and katakana– though it is possible to use just those characters, it’s easyer to use the Kanji characters too

@drewsky684 : because there are words that sound the same but mean totally other things.
example: torimasu (1.取ります 2.撮ります)

I love that music at the begining (from 0.19 onwards) & the same music at the ending credits. What is it called & where can I download the full mp3 version of it? It really perks me up.
Thanks!

Very informative video.
To anyone learning Japanese/Kanji,
From here on out, I am uploading lessons on stroke order, and meaning of Kanji on this Youtube account. Please visit my profile and watch my first video.

I don’t think you are in position in giving Japanese people advice on how to learn their language. ;] They have been learning it like this for centuries, there’s no meaning in changing their ways of learning now… ;]]]

There are no spaces in Japanese so kanji is necessary in distinguishing between separate words within a sentence. Kanji is also useful for discriminating between homophones, which occurs quite often given the limited number of distinct sounds in Japanese.

what is the point of kanji? why not just use hiragana and katakana?

Its so exciting to learn kanji, until you run into an 18 stroke character that has 6 different readings.
